DAY 3: Tuesday, October 20, 2009
The adventures are getting better as the adventurers get bolder, and more importantly, better organized. As it turns out, there is no need to dress like Eskimos in Manhattan...yet; in fact, the weather could not be better--gorgeous, crisp fall days with just enough sun and shade. We woke up this morning, had oatmeal, and headed out to explore the city. I forgot the camera, but we had a nice walk around our neighborhood, checking out the location of Duane Reade, trying to find a cobbler, and surveying the host of fake purse purveyors. When we got back, Henry had lunch and headed into his tent. Tucker did a little dancing on the windowsill and admired all the "really tall buildings, Mommy" until the cries came from the sleeping camper. Then, the boys piled into the stroller, which must be the most appealing double stroller option in NYC, and we headed to Bryant Park, one of my favorite spots in the entire city. We made it for happy hour, and while I reminisced about meeting friends at the Bryant Park Grill for blueberry mojitos during grad school, I spent happy hour with the boys at the children's carousel and reading cart. Tucker, in typical fashion, was conked out in the backseat of the stroller after a long successful battle with me to avoid a nap inside. Henry, however, was amazed by the sheer number of books and the pumpkin patch outside the carousel. After chatting with a set of 8 year-old twin brothers about the hardships of living with a 1 year-old, Tucker woke up, Wes met us in the children's garden on his walk back from work, and Tucker and I rode the carousel--twice. I have a feeling we'll be back.
