Another day with a late start. Seems to be a trend! I didn't get my act together and both boys in the stroller until after Henry's morning nap and our spontaneous indoor picnic, but there was a little rain so I felt justified! When we finally made it outside, we started walking south down Sixth Avenue, then crossed over to Fifth in search of Madison Square Park and the famed Shake Shack. (At lunch, I asked Tucker if he wanted a PB&J or a grilled cheese. "French fries...and chicken!" was his response, a devilish grin on his face. So, I decided a small treat from the Shake Shack might be an appealing reward for good behavior!) We found the park with ease, a triumph in and of itself for a directionally-challenged mother (my nickname in college was Magellan...for good reason!), and spent so much time on the playground and sculpture lawn while waiting for Wes to join us for an early dinner that we had to forego Shake Shack, mostly due to an emergency potty run! Note to anyone planning on having a toddler of potty-training age in NYC: wait until after your stay in the city to finish potty training. Public (or semi-public) restrooms are hard to find! Before we left, though, Tucker met a new friend named Ella. Ella was a petite blonde, an older woman at age 3, but she and Tucker seemed to be natural compatriots. They were playing inside one of the sculptures when another little girl rips a ball out of Ella's hands. Tucker sees this, runs over, yells "No, No, No, No, No!!!" at the mean girl, and throws his arm out as if he might hit her. Parents step in, and we prevent any further interaction. But I step away with something new. I know Tucker is the product of two Southern parents, and yes, his hometown is Atlanta...but I swear, I think chivalry is instinctual, at least in this case. Wow.
